Counter Top Revive

Hello Sweet Bloggers.
Happy Easter Week.

I wanted to share with you today how I revived my butcher block counter tops in one easy step.

This was the kitchen when we moved a little over a year ago!!!!

These pictures hurt my eyes to remember how this kitchen looked when we first moved in.

Here is the kitchen after we renovated.

This is how the counter tops looked before we revived them.
We never sealed the butcher block and kept them natural.
We would used a butcher block conditioner on them only.
Using just the conditioner and not sealing them left them open to wear and drying out.

They needed to be conditioned and sealed.

I used this Watco Danish Oil Finish.  It  penetrates deep into the butcher block.  It then seals and protects the butcher block.

It is easy peasy to do.  You use a clean rag and wipe the oil onto the wood.
You do not need any fancy applicators or brushes.
It penetrates deep into the wood.

With each coat it deepens the color and the beauty of the wood.

We did three coats.  The more coats the deeper the color.

Now the counters have a nice rich color and more importantly are sealed and food safe.

After using Waco the butcher block counters match with my kitchen floors.

Wishing all of you a Happy Easter.
Hugs,
Kris

  3. Love the butcher block counter tops. Ours are the butcher block laminate - original of the house; 30 years old! Not very attractive, but one project at a time around here due to $$. I also love the shelves on your kitchen walls - so pretty.

  4. Your kitchen is just dreamy, Kris!! I love the combo of white and butcher block....that's one of my favorite combos and you pulled it off perfectly, of course. The danish oil did a great job, wow, what a difference! Happy Easter sweet friend!

  9. Wow huge difference and beautiful difference. We used this product years ago on our dining room table. I loved that it creates a protective covering with keeping the wood natural. I also loved adding extra layers to deepen the tone of our oak top.

    Your kitchen is wonderful.

    Happy Easter my dear.

  19. Kris, your kitchen is gorgeous! And WOW at the transformation you guys made from the original look! It is amazing! Those wood countertops warm up all the white and made such a difference. I think adding the sealer was a good move...it really deepened the color of the wood, giving it more richness and depth...great idea! Everything in your home looks gorgeous and you guys have done a great job! Hope you and your family have a most wonderfully blessed Easter! Love and hugs to you sweet friend!!

  20. Hardly looks like the same kitchen. Amazing what a room can look like once you give it some love. I wanted so much to pin these amazing photos. Something kept going wrong and wouldn't let me. I'll come back later.

  24. Your kitchen looks so much bigger after your special touches. I will have to try that on my Ikea cupboard top. I don't know what kind of a finish it had originally, but we have never done anything to it and it does look worn out and lightened. That White Cottage sign is just perfect for you. It all looks so pretty..xxoJudy

  36. I love the contrast of the butcher block and the wood floors with the white cabinets and shelves. Very pretty. You're very brave having so many of your dishes and pieces out in the open like that haha! I THOUGHT about leaving the doors off of some of my cupboards and then decided . . no. It all looks so fresh and pretty - you've a real knack for decorating!!

  37. Your before shows there really is a possibility of having too much white. I love how the black adds some interest and weight to the room.

  44. What a transformation. Love those chandy's. The flooring and countertops warm that space up so much. Your sign is perfect in that space. The brackets are lovely and add a lot of style to those shelves. I also have open shelves and iron work brackets in my tiny farmhouse kitchen. I love them except my farmhouse gets SUPER dusty and I have to remove all the dishes every other month to dust the shelves and wash the dishes, but like I always say "cute overrides practical" in my home. Your home looks much newer and that makes open shelves way more practical. Great transformation.

  45. On the PB sectional, my friend has it, white linen, pretty to look at but it's HORRIBLE-so uncomfortable and I feel cheaply made. Kills my back to sit on it, plus like sitting on hard plywood, no cushion. In fact, most of her furniture is PB and after living in her house with all of it, I would never buy it for my own house. It's expensive and not good quality. I will look into Rachel's stuff now.
