Living Room Switch-a-roo!

Happy Friday Everyone.

Hope your week has been going great.  Yeah for Friday's and weekend's.

After taking down my Christmas decor the house looked pretty sad.  No more pretty lights twinkling on the tree.

For a long time having the couch under one of my windows in the living room always bugged me.  I do not like when furniture covers up windows that let in lots of light.

I mentioned in my sneak peek post that this couch was too big for this tiny living room.  So I gifted the couch to my youngest daughter that just bought her first home.  It opened up the window very nicely.

I added the new Bombay chest I scored and painted white under the window and then flanked each side of the window with my two Ikea slipcovered chairs.
I had been waiting on the new rug to come in from Overstock.com and two new white ottoman slipcovers.  They both came in a few days ago.  I love the pattern to the rug.  It is white, light silver, gray with a floral pattern.  I think it goes well with my wallpaper in this room.

Speaking of wallpaper.  I had two double rolls left over from the one wall we did in the living room.   Terry hung the left over wallpaper on the entry way wall and the wall opposite the other papered wall in my living room.  I think it gives some dimension and interest to this side of the room.

These are my love birds that Terry gave me for our 15th anniversary years ago.  We have been married 38 years so that is how long I have had these.  I love them and love that he gifted me with this lovely sentimental gift.  They have a new home on top of the TV Armoire.

My entry way as you come into the living room has my grandmothers old cedar chest under the old chippy french window.

I took my birdhouse and placed it on this old candle stick.  Can you believe that was a candle stick?  Biggest one I have ever seen!  Makes for a cute post for the birdhouse.

Moving out the sofa and putting the chest here and the chairs on either side of the window really opened up this space.  I am the only one along with Peggy that sit up here in these chairs.  So it feels right in this room now.

This lay out of the room makes the room feel bigger.  The natural light flows in nicely and the  light does not get blocked by furniture.

Even on this cold gray winter day you can see how bright the room still is.  When the sun streams in it is heavenly.

I re hung my arched vintage window over on this wall.
Over where the arch window use to be I hung my chippy picket fence.

The old picket fence ties in with my wallpaper for a nice garden vignette.
Loving my re loved old mantel clock too.
I still have my old farmhouse chippy window and shutters on one wall in this room.  Love the history of this piece.

With just moving a couch out and buying a new rug and pulling my other white chair out of storage I have a nice "she cave" area in my living room.

I enjoy sitting in this room especially on a sun filled day to read or watch a little TV.

Before I say Good Bye.

I wanted to share with you a wonderful sweet gift I got from Rita at Panoply blog.  I saw it on her blog post here and asked her how much this sweet piece was selling for and if she would ship it to me.  Rita being the sweet heart she is gifted it to me.  It was originally brass and you know me and white.  So this cherub bowl got a little white paint makeover.

It is sitting right now on my kitchen counter and is holding my Cutie tangerines.  Thank you sweet Rita I love this sweet cherub bowl.  I am sure he will be traveling though out the house and my decor from time to time but for now he is the guardian of the Cuties!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

  3. Kris, that rug is perfect there! So glad you found it. The difference in the wall with the large sofa gone is amazing. I love that it shows more of that beautiful wallpaper, and that you extended it into the entry. Now a photo of Peggy in the chair, please!

The cut glass fruit compote is so pretty!

  4. Kris, The new rug is beautiful. I love how the wallpaper looks in the entry. Your old chippy pieces hanging on the walls really give the room character. You certainly have the decorator's eye. Blessings for a cozy relaxed weekend. xoxo, Susie

  9. Your living room looks beautiful.....I love the two chairs paired together instead of the sofa. I am so envious of all the wonderful sunlight your room gets. However, where is the pic of your sweet assistant Peggy? Love your new little cherub that Rita gifted you. What a sweet friend you have :o)

  13. GOOD MORNING! I love Saturday mornings so I can savor good blog posts, and I feel as if I'm sitting in your gorgeous, white she-cave! Kris, what a great transformation. I love what Terry did by adding a bit more wallpaper; it does give more dimension and almost a feeling of another little room, by distinguishing the entry. Your chairs look amazing. You are set, girl, for SPRING! Lovely, lovely inspiration, and now I want to work on my she-cave!

  15. Hi Kris! I adore the change - I've been eyeing up a room in our house to make a cozy sitting room. I'm also smitten (and now hunting for one!) with the mantel clock turned cute decor. Genius! Have a fabulous weekend. Jane

  16. Love your she cave! That’s quite a transformation- looks like you had fun re-doing the room! The rug is beautiful and I think the extra wallpaper was a great idea. I also like the curtains and how you gathered the center. Beautifully done!

  18. The room looks great, Kris, and so does the bowl. Now, will you please sit down and relax?? Have Terry take a picture of you & Peggy relaxing or we won't ever believe this is your she cave, lol!

  19. I love your new rug, Kris! That is just beautiful! The wallpaper! I love it still and putting it on those additional walls was brilliant. I can just see you and Peggy snuggled in your chair enjoying your pretty space! The sweet cherub Rita gifted you is so sweet too!
I totally agree with removing the sofa so it didn't block the window. When I took down the tree at the farm, I didn't put anything back in front of my window. I also didn't want to block my light (I have a lot less coming in than you!) and I'm enjoying being able to see my pretty view. I love how it turned out, Kris!

So happy for your daughter on her new home. Enjoy your weekend. It's still bitter cold here so it's a good time to tackle sorting and organizing tasks. xoxo

  24. First, Rita is a absolute sweetie pie!

I can't believe the difference in the room with the sofa gone and I love the area with the cedar chest. I love how you directed the eye upward. And, you just gave me an idea for my tall candlestick -although it isn't as tall as yours. I am going to look through the house today to find just the right item to place atop mine.,

  25. I love the new look. So crazy over the decor pieces throughout, especially windows. I love blue turquoise so would toss some of that color in. My hubby and I had 38 yrs together before he passed 5 years ago at age 56. Treasure each moment!

  29. I love it all! Your room is so 'put together' and not a thing out of place. I'm jealous! If I took a picture of my living room now, it would be a disaster! Christmas decs still there, and sacks of stuff and papers and Christmas wrap I'm saving, my crafty corner is a mess as I've been working on "stuff" for my Etsy shop, and all in all, is a downright un-put-together mess. I don't have vignettes as I have too much stuff and it's too crowded together. One day it would be nice to have it more airy and clean looking! Right now our loveseat and Christmas tree are in front of our only window in there, so makes for a dark room... I'll be glad when I get the tree down and would love to move things around in our living area, which is hard to arrange as is long and narrow and the one wall has the doorway down the hall, so you can't put anything in that area that blocks the hallway. EEERRRRGGGGG. I may take some "befores" for my blog.. and then the "after" if I ever get it rearranged! I'm not like most.. I don't move around furniture hardly ever.. it stays where it first gets plunked down. But I sure love yours.. and it gives me hope! Hugs.. Marilyn

  30. Ooooh! I love that rug - the whole room looks great. The chairs look perfect for curling up with a good book under a warm blanket. I love the wallpaper. I know wallpaper has been 'out' for awhile but I think it's making a comeback and I love how you did just the one wall. It's such a great way to add interest to a room. What a lovely gift that cherub serving piece is and the oranges look great in there!

  31. Hi Kris,
I may just need to have Peggy sit on my lap to enjoy your enchanting front parlor in your precious and pretty cottage. Adding the extra wallpaper worked magic and this room speaks of your heart that we all love.

  33. Your she cave looks bigger now indeed and very bright and inviting, Kris. Those chairs must be pretty comfortable and it's great that you can put your feet up. A wonderful place to read or just relax. I can see you sitting there with a big smile on your face. Your new rug with the lacey pattern is lovely and fits perfectly in this room.

  34. Kris,
I really like your wallpaper too! I just hung wallpaper for the first time this week. It was so much easier than I thought it would be.

  35. I knew the room would be fabulous and that rug is outstanding. The pattern in the middle looks like a relief...3D! Beautiful. And what a sweet gift you received, although, I am not surprised. You are a super kind, caring and giving person and when you put that out into the universe, it always comes back to you! xo

  37. You are the queen of downsizing. Your living room is a perfect example of rearranging a room to make it useful and pretty. We don't have to follow design rules, just follow your heart.

  39. What a charming and romantic home you have! Everything looks just picture perfect, so cozy and inviting. I know what you mean about the house looking sad after the holiday decorations come down. Somehow, we really need to work twinkle lights into all of the holidays. I love them that much!

  40. I wish I could see your pics on my computer, but alas it's in storage 😟. I can tell the living room is more open now, but I can't get a good visual of the rug on my phone. I'm going to have to come back to this post when I can get on my hubbys laptop.

This proves we really need to follow our gut, especially if we happen to have one as intuitive as yours!

I'm in the prices of looking for two sofas and am looking for some that aren't too high for the same reason (sort of). Long story, but what's important is your home is looking so pretty and pulled together. I will echo what others have said too...how about a pic of you and Penny enjoying the space?

Love the churub from Rita too!

  42. It's all very pretty Kris. Love the new rug and wall paper! I think there is a similar cherub bowl out in my garage left over from the estate sales I helped host. I may have to bring it in for Valentines. Love the idea of painting the brass.

  46. It feels like a sweet English cottage in the mix of all thing european. That French chest is the anchoring piece of wonderment, a beautiful compliment in this sitting room. Your sofa invited two people to sit at it and for you to opt to eliminate the sofa and add two club chairs seating here is so inviting in a perfect conversation area that acts much like a parlor; an intimate room and your special space to sit cozied up with a book, a stack of magazines, or a little needle work while enjoying the beauty you surround yourself with.
I am sure you are going to enjoy this space as well as the flexability of moving it about. The armoire, makes a great statement in its placement, that one grand pieces that demands attention in the room, but doesn’t compete with the added pieces in the room. Sweet gifting from Rita, it’s a piece modeled after my vintage garden concrete cherub statue I shared on my blog and IG. postings. We both are taken with this beautiful cherub design and yours makes for a perfect offering of fruits, chocolates for Valentine’s Day, and beautiful colored eggs for Easter. I really love the charm you have created in a cottage so petite that lives so big in wowness!!
    Enjoy your blooming cottage.
