Bathroom Reveal

Hope you are all having a great weekend.  The sun is shining and it is low 70's for temps here in the burbs outside of Chicago.  A nice breeze is blowing in the windows.

Sweet Peggy is getting in a great nap under the window with a breeze blowing over her.

I am not going to say this is the final reveal of the bathroom because it is still a work in progress but it is finished for the most part.

This is the picture of the bathroom when we bought the house.

We gutted most of this bathroom and then used the Epoxy Paint on the cast iron tub and tiles.  It made a big difference.

These dark dated bathroom tiles were transformed with the Epoxy Paint.

Yep so much better!

Then this sweet cabinet we purchased when we went to Michigan got some legs and a paint treatment.

I did a white wash paint treatment to this piece.  All I did was painted the piece white and then added a layer of gray paint and then sanded it down.  After a light sanding I took a wet brush of white paint and went over the piece one more time.

I did not follow any special way just kind of went along with doing it my way.  I am sure on pinterest there are great instructions on how to get the white wash look but I made up my own!!! I liked that the gray and wood come through to give texture to the piece.

I know a lot of you loved the cleaned up brass to the sink and faucet but it really did not go with the look I wanted in this room.   I used white epoxy on the sink and then we got a new faucet in silver.  The brass faucet was not taking the paint.

I had my handyman Terry cut this old chippy post in half and then added some vintage hangers to make his and hers towel holders for this bathroom.

Shooting pics right into the light in this bathroom is always a challenge but you can see the nice new vinyl flooring.  This only took Terry about 2 hours to put in.  He only had to use a utility knife to make the cuts and then they clicked together in place.  I like that these floors look and feel like wood and give some texture and contrast to this basically white bathroom.

This bathroom went from this.

To this pretty bathroom.  This bathroom will still have things added.  I want to find either new sconce covers for this light fixture or a whole new light fixture to bring in a little more vintage vibe.

Not sure the current mirror will stay.   I hope I can find a pretty old chippy framed mirror with some character.

So one room done to show you.  I will have more rooms to show with new decor etc. in the coming days.

Before I close and wish all of you a great weekend.  I want to give a shout out and share a new blog with you.

You all know Diana from Nana Diana Takes A Break Blog.  Diana has ventured out and started a new blog called  A Cottage On The Cove and this sweet blog will have Diana's Etsy shop .

  2. Looks fantastic, my friend! I want to know more about that epoxy paint. And that isn't your only bath is it? If I used this paint it would be on my only bathroom. So I want to know how long it takes to dry.

  7. Love this cute cottage bathroom. Wow, the white really brightened it up. Great job on the cabinet. You may want to check out rejuvination.com for old looking light fixtures. They have a sale going on. I'm even looking at one for my powder room.

  9. It looks so pretty and I love it and what you did with the sink. Did you paint on the epoxy paint yourselves on the tub and tiles? We are going to work on our bathroom and it needs the tiles and tub painted. We are not sure if we want to do it or hire someone?

  10. Oh! Thank you so much, Kris. You are a sweet heart!

That does not even look like the same bathroom! I did love the brass sink but if it didn't look right in the room I don't blame you for changing it up. That floor really looks good in there, too. That Terry is something else--between your ideas and his 'do it' attitude you guys move mountains (or lay floors, or cut down cabinets, or whatever).

Hope to see you sometime yet this fall!!!! xo Diana

  11. Kris, I love what you both have done with this bathroom! It makes the glass blocks even more fabulous than they already were. I'm like Brenda above, got to find out more about this epoxy white paint. And I am so interested in the vinyl plank flooring because we're wanting to put down new flooring in the kitchen and a second bathroom we hope to build next year and the flooring was the only thing we didn't know what we wanted. Seeing the pic of yours in the bathroom sells me on this and I can't wait to see it in your basement.

I'm off to see Diana's new blog but you know I can't leave without wanting to just scoop Peggy up and love on her. She's just a snuggle full of sweetness!

    Love to you,
    Dewena

  13. It is a beautiful bath...I am going to try my hand at making my white vintage wicker table into more of a weathered light gray...i've never done a wash but I am thinking a coat of medium gray with a lighter gray and white might do the trick...we'll see.

  17. Kris I am impressed how quickly your cottage transformation is progressing at warp speed! There is really no one way to do faux painting and your sink cabinet looks pretty. Sweet Peggy, the princess of the cottage! My heart smiled when I saw her napping. Love Terry's towel hooks he created, very clever.

  19. What a transformation! Very well done, you two! Your bathroom is so beautiful now, Kris! The vinyl floor looks wonderful in combination with the white interior. It was a great idea to turn a post into towel holders.
Peggy is so sweet. She must be one happy girl to be finally a family member instead of a puppy machine for a breeder.

  21. Loving it all Kris... especially those towel hooks.
I painted the bathroom tiles in our last house and was so happy with the final result. I fully expected they'd chip, but they never did. You and Terry are such a great renovation duo.

  22. Your bathroom turned out so pretty. As I was looking at your piece that you used for your sink, I realized I have a piece just like it, although not in the same wood, and with a bit of different decorative carving. It is handmade, as I'm sure yours is also.

Enjoy your lovely new look. The epoxy paint looks amazing. Is it highly smelly when applying it?

  24. WOW. Kris and Terry, your guys did it again. So much work has gone into this, and the results are impressive. I actually like the light fixtures, and I'm not a MODERN style person, but there is a gentle simplicity that the lights add. The white, what can I say, it's PERFECTION!

  27. Excellent job! The cabinet turned out really well. Those his and her towels holders are a really cute idea. The flooring really was a great choice. I like the faucet and light fixture- they provide a light design that doesn't compete with everything else. You guys have worked hard on so many things to get this the way you want it- you must feel relieved to see these things coming together.

  44. I love the bathroom, it looks beautiful and I love everything that you did. I also love the picture of Peggy taking her nap on the chair. I bet she is loving her new forever home.

Sorry to be so slow is commenting on your post, but I fell down the steps on the front porch. Hit a bit of water and my feet went out from under me and I landed on my bottom and couldn't get up. I finally got the attention of my neighbor and he came over and picked me up. I didn't break anything, thank God, but I am sure sore.

Looking forward to seeing each room that you put your magic on.
    Hugs,
    Mary

  46. The bathroom looks really beautiful...and I love the flooring which does add character. Love how the sink turned out the the white sink fits in better.. i'm going to look up the epoxy since both our cast iron tubs need an uplift. We will be starting the construction upstairs again this Wednesay..and hope we can finally finish and move forward. Its costing a bit but at least it will be done.

    1. Hi Laura,
It is called Silver Screen by Behr. I would suggest to go to Home Depot and get all the whites paint swatches with a touch of gray added to them and put them up on the wall. I did that to see which samples I liked in the light at all times during the day and evening.
      Hope this helps.
      Kris
