White And Faded Guest Bathroom

As promised here is my guest bath with a few new change ups.

Remember this sweet little scrolly bench?!

With some tweaking and a few repairs it is now a nice bench in my guest bathroom.  Love the patina to this sweet piece.

I have this vintage candelabra. Anyone for a nice romantic bath?
Put this little chippy stool by the bath tub.
The candelabra can be put on this stool too for that long and relaxing bath ambience.

The old picture frames work nicely for towel hangers.

I am on the hunt for some old vintage door knobs to adorn these vanity cabinet doors.  They need a little bling and maybe a wax texture.  Hmmm hunting and thinking on this!

This old mirror is my great grandmothers off an old vintage dresser she had.  I still have not found a use for the old dresser that went with that mirror but I will!!!!!

A soft sweet faux lamb rug.

An old salvage piece over the window.

I had these three vintage salvage moldings that I had saved from a very long time ago.  I held onto them hoping some day I could figure out something to do with them.  Terry and his tools made a very nice header for over the shower curtain.  So happy that man has tools and can make pretty things for me!

The moldings have a real pretty pattern.  Can you imagine an old home with these moldings round the house!  Ahhhh beautiful.
Just a few new pieces and some tweaking to my guest bathroom.

Have a great week.  We saw sunshine for the first time in 8 days.  It was heaven!

Kris

Most Valuable Decor Piece

Happy Sunday

Just wanted to wish all of you a wonderful start to the new week.  With January ending we are getting closer to Spring!  Wooo Hooo!

Do you have a decor piece that is your absolute favorite in your home?

Well,  I have to tell you I have a Work of Art or I should say a Work of Heart that I cherish.

Out of all my chippy, beautiful salvage pieces of history I have put into my decor,  this piece wins my heart.

Yep!!!!! This is a picture made for me by my granddaughter Abby.  It is a picture of our whole family.  As Abby presented this to me she said "I made this for you MiMi because I know how much you love our family".  OMG my heart just melted.
Out of the mouths of babes!!!!

Have a great start to the new week and new month ahead.
I promise I will have my bathroom pics up soon.  As soon as I think I am done,  I get another decor crazy idea start in there!
Hugs,
Kris

Chippy Chair

Happy Friday.

Got a wonderful new office chair for Christmas.  Loved the french vibe of the chair and the blue and white stripes.  The color of the wood however did not appeal to me.

So guess what??? I had some White Paint!!!!
The brown tone of the wood was not going well with my white chippy office armoire.
So out came a paint brush and some white paint.

These cloudy sunless days make it so hard to get a good picture.  It is hard to capture the chairs pretty when you do not have decent light.
After I painted it white I sanded the edges to make the chair chippy.  The fabric on the chair is a lighter blue and white stripe.

Now I have a chippy french vibe chair that is very comfy for my time on the computer.

Have a great Friday.
Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

White and Weathered Change Up

I am changing up my three bathrooms in this house.  I started with my Powder Room Bath on the first floor.   I thought I would show you just a few minor changes with paint that gave a new year "up do" to this bathroom.

We have only been in this house since May of this year.  We painted all the rooms when we moved in so this bathroom just needed a little decor and counter top up date.

I have to stand on my head practically to get pictures with where this half bath is located in the hall way.   I will have to show this bathroom in sections.

There are no windows in this hall or bathroom so pictures had to be taken with the lights on.  Sorry for the glare of the lights being on!!!

Terry had some left over counter top from when we did the kitchen after moving in.  So we used this piece to put on top of this builder stock vanity a while back.
I liked the wood farmhouse vanity top but it just wasn't going with my white and gray salvaged themed bathroom.
I would eventually love to find a vintage dresser to make as a vanity.

In the mean time I decided to white wash the top of the vanity counter.  I am sure there are a million u tube and  blog directions out there on how to white wash wood.  My treatment was easy peasy.  Just took white paint and lightly brushed it on the wood and then took a wet rag and smoothed the paint out in the direction of the wood grain.

Here is a section up close after I white washed the top.  It still let some of the wood come through for texture but brought in white and gray to the counter's surface.

It kind of gave the counter top a beach weathered look.

I wanted to let some of the wood come through for texture but keep a worn look to match all the architectural salvage I have in this bathroom.  There is the old cottage door that Terry made into a mirror in the old house.  Glad I saved that piece and moved it.  It was perfect fit for this half bath.

Here are the small section pictures of this bathroom!

Happy to have all these chippy architectural pieces to hang up in this powder room.  Love the history and character they give to this bathroom.

By just taking some fresh white paint and white washing the top of the wood vanity to look weathered and worn,  I got a fresh look for this powder room.  Cost was $0 dollars.  I had all the architectural pieces so it was just a matter of hanging them in the right spaces.

One bathroom done and ready to show!  Happy to freshen up the powder room for $0 dollars spent.

I have our Master Bathroom and Guest bathroom under way with changes. I just really am waiting on a good day with some sunshine for pictures.

We have had unseasonable warm weather for Chicago.  More like Spring then the dead of winter.

While I am not complaining about the mild temps.  I have missed seeing sunshine.  It has been a long time since Mr. Sunshine was out.

The days are gloomy, wet and foggy.  I am sure this will not last long and we will be back into more wintery weather soon.  Hopefully with some sunshine added.

Have a great rest of this week.  Hoping to have up more pictures of the other two bathrooms soon.  Happy that I can do these change ups with little money and just a lot of decor imagination.  Helps to keep the winter blues away during these long winter months.

Hugs,
Kris

Bathroom Updates

Happy Monday.  Just finishing up on both bathrooms.  Just some minor change ups.

Painted the walls in our Master Bathroom the same color as the bedroom.  That was the only room we did not paint when we moved in.  So that got a fresh coat of paint this past weekend.

I am finishing up with some other changes to the decor and will have pictures up soon.  Hoping for a sunny day to grab some pictures.

This chippy bench got a little make over.  Very little make over because I loved her patina.  Mostly the boards needed some love.  They were warped and did not fit right.   Mr. Terry took care of that with his trustee tools!

Here is a sneak peek at her new place to reside in Junk Chic Cottage.  As you can guess by the towels she found a place in my guest bathroom.

Stay tuned I will have pictures of the changes hopefully this week.

Happy New Week.
Kris

Sneak Peek

Good Morning Blogging Friends.

I have been trying to keep the January blues away by doing some small projects around Junk Chic Cottage.

Love my Habitat Restore.  I find the best stuff there to re love and the prices are fabulous.

Our Restore is in an old town where unfortunately they are tearing down a lot of old vintage homes to build new homes.  So our Habitat has been getting a lot of old salvage from these tear downs.  I am always amazed at some of the great old doors, windows, cabinets etc. they have been taking in.

Just wanted to give you a sneak peek at a couple of finds that my Handyman Terry is fixing up for me to reveal to you soon.

Look at this scrolly chippy bench.  That bench fell from heaven and needed to come home with me.  I will show you soon where this pretty ended up in Junk Chic Cottage.

Her boards are warped and do not fit but no problem for Terry.  He has tools and knows how to use them!!!!

Just look at her curves and pretty patina.  So much personality in this old garden bench.

She was screaming make me pretty again and find me a place in your cottage.  Yep I can do that!!!!
I will show you soon where she landed.

Old vintage twin headboard for $10.  This is getting re loved too.
Working on a few change ups where both of these pieces will find new places in Junk Chic Cottage.
Stay tuned.

This is how Terry and I felt after we scored these two fabulous pieces for a steal at Restore!!!!!

Have a fabulous Friday and wonderful weekend.

Rescued Door

Good Sunday Morning to all of you.  I was at Habitat Restore looking for an old armoire when I came across this door that was in the clearance area.  They get one week in the clearance bin and then it is out to the trash.  WHAT?!!!!  Something with good bones and history out to the trash.  No way.
The door whisper in me came out and I called Terry over to check out this door.  I got the eye roll and the comment "Where on earth are you thinking of putting that?!!!!"

Yep it was one of these moments!!!!

This picture really does not show it too much but the door was pretty scratch and in bad shape on the one side of the door.  I still was determined she was worth saving.

As you can see the back side of this door looked like someone started to sand it down.  So Terry said he would sand the front so it could take paint.  Shocker I wanted to use White Paint on this old girl!!!!

Terry has this bin in the garage that has all kinds of broken and misfit things in it.  He found these old chippy hinges in the box to attach to this door. Love that he has that bin with cool things in it.

He used a metallic spray paint that gave the hardware a silver grey antique look.
This is how the pantry looked.  Just a stock closet door that I had white washed and antiqued with gray paint and wax awhile back.

This is where I envisioned the new "old" door to go.

Off came the closet bi fold doors.

New pretty "old" door.  Sorry but there is no way to get a good pretty white picture in this corner of my kitchen.  I have to stand in the hall to get the angle of this and there is no natural light.  Plus it has been very cloudy and rain filled days.  Would love to see some sun.  Trust me this door and her new hardware blend in nicely in my kitchen.

Loved rescuing this old vintage door and re loving her in my home.

Have a great start to the new week ahead.

Dreaming In Color

I thought I would share something my heart is longing for.  This Chippy White Neutral Chick is dreaming of color, flowers, and sunshine and a comfy lounger for taking a summer nap.

While we are looking at this for the next few months.

I want to think about.....

Color, fresh air, sunshine!  Yep even us white and neutral decor girls need some color in our lives.  I find mine each and every summer through my garden.

Outdoor places during the summer.  Garden retreats are near and dear to my heart and I always carve out a space for a summer outdoor lounging spot in my garden.

These next pictures are from my past garden spaces.  Ohhhh how I cannot wait for Spring and Summer here in the Midwest.  I miss my sweet lounge chair and flowers.

Summer 2014

A few years ago I had an old vintage twin bed out on my deck that my lounge chair fit.  Loved this space.  Held up great through the summer.

I long to bring out my summer lounger once again.  Ahhhh, love to surround my outdoor space with flowers, chandeliers and a comfy lounger to rest, read and soak up the sun.

Sweet scents from flowers, sunshine and birds singing make my heart sing.

Courtesy of Aiken House & Garden.  Ahhhh.
This girl gets it too.

So as we wait for the seasons to change and summer to return we can dream of our outdoor spaces to be.
If you would like some more outdoor garden space ideas you can go to my pinterest board here.

It's nice to dream about what is to come!!!! Hopefully a lot sooner than later!!!

Have a great rest of this week.

I have a little post coming up very soon on this beautiful piece of history I rescued.

This pretty vintage door is going to find a new home and purpose in Junk Chic Cottage.  Stay tuned!
xoxo
