New Project in the Works

I am starting to feel my decor groove coming back.  With Terry home and captive until he finds another position in the Fire Service,  I am putting him to work!!!!  He said he loves having a project to take his mind off finding a new job.

Like I have always said I have a man with tools and he knows how to use them lol!

So here we go.

When we moved up here and sold our house and down sized to this little house I did not have room for my dining set and gave it to my daughter when we moved.

This dining room set was the first real wood furniture Terry and I could afford and I loved this set.   I was happy to give it to my daughter to have when we moved.  My daughter and son in law just bought a new home and will not have a formal dining room.  These new homes are more open concepts now.  So I did not want her to give that china cabinet away so I inherited it back.

Well...... that started a whole new transformation in my kitchen.  I am making room for that cabinet to come back into my french farmhouse kitchen.

I thought I had a  good picture of the whole long wall in my kitchen before we took everything down.  Nope this is the most current pic I could find.  Anyway you get the idea of what the long wall in the kitchen looks like from this picture.

Everything came off the walls and shelves.

Took down the cabinets and shelves.

Took the shelf bar that ran across the wall.

Yep looks like a garage sale with all the stuff from the kitchen wall area piled into my dining room.  This is the only part of re doing something I hate.  Having everything everywhere!!!!

So day one is done.  We have  spackled and primed and painted the wall in the kitchen.

Stay tuned to see the finished wall with the new china cabinet.  Just hope my vision of this cabinet  and new wall design I have in my head will come out the way I have it envisioned!!!

My daughter has primitive decor in her home so the china cabinet was painted black so it will be re loved with paint back to white.

Hope to have the reveal soon.
Stay tuned!

Please come back Saturday for Spotlight I have a really wonderful blogger for you to get to know.  She is a celebrity in her own right with having a column she writes for Romantic Homes.  She is special and so so sweet you won't want to miss meeting her.

See you Saturday and maybe Sunday I will have the reveal of the new kitchen wall and china cabinet.

  8. Can't wait to see your reveal! I love that the china cabinet has spent time in different homes. It's truly a loved piece. :) I know what you mean about not loving the messy part of projects...we just ripped out our old backsplash in the kitchen and replaced it with subway tile and my kitchen was torn apart for about 5 days. I had just about reached my limit of how long I can go with things in disarray. Lol!

  12. Can't wait to see it, Kris! I gave our dining room set to our daughter when we moved, too. I would take the china cabinet back in a minute! I would also paint mine white at this point (it is still oak in my daughter's house). I also hate what renovating does to the rest of the house. Stuff everywhere - I guess that's why I put it off for as long as I can because I know one room will wind up affecting a number of rooms!

  13. I can't wait to see the cabinet transformation. I have a cabinet that my friend gave me that I need to get to.... It is cute and small from the 1940's. I'm hoping to refinish it in the next few days...while the weather is warm.

    Amy Jo

  14. Can't wait to see your reveal. Now who would have thought that you would make room after all. I have up an amazing China cabinet for that very same reasons and then ened up fitting in one here and could have kept my one I gave up!
It's so exciting Kris to see how the China hutch fits in and how you group in your pieces around it.

Beauty and grace ahead of you.

I know it's going to look beautiful whatever you do to it! By the way your hair looks great. I have a secret my husband highlights my hair and gave my daughter an ombre hair coloring and he is not a hair dresser! LOL! Take care and have fun.

  33. Uh-oh----she's at it again. lol I am so happy that Terry is able to help you accomplish your visions. MyHero would still be standing there looking at the wall wondering what to do next...then he would pick up the phone and call a handyman...(if he was feeling generous). So...when Terry gets done there send him this way- I have a chandelier he can hang for me.....xo Diana

  50. I have mixed feelings about this. I feel like your kitchen wall as you just removed was pretty fabulous. I'm kinda wondering how you can improve on that? I thought it was original and quirky and romantic and vintage and pretty great. But you always do great things...so I'm going to have to trust that whatever you do next will be even better.

  51. Your project will be terrific when you finished. You have not done anything that I didn't like. It's good to keep Terry busy that way it helps time time fly by.
Saying an extra prayer tonight that he gets one of the jobs. They will be lucky to have him.
