Good Morning. Wednesday the half way mark of the week!!! I spent yesterday moving my youngest daughter into her new digs. Man I am getting to old for this stuff!!  Every one of my muscles are feeling it today.

I have two daughters and my youngest (25 years old hey!! when did that happen?!!!) just landed a great job as an RN on an oncology floor so she has been temporarily living with us until she got settled into her new job and could find a cute apartment to move into. So for the past months she has lived back home with us and I have loved having her home.  It is hard when your adult children move back in especially for them but we all knew it was temporary and I have loved having her here. Our empty nest was full for a little while.

Now that she has moved into her own digs I am contemplating what to do with my guest bedroom.  I cleared a lot of the lake cottage theme out while my daughter was living in there so she could feel like she had her own space.  Now I am not sure if I want to change it back to a Lake Room or do something different in there.    I would rather be doing projects outside but with our crummy weather I guess I will redo the guest room.

Here are some pics of how it looks now.  My daughter took her tempur pedic bed out with her so now I need to find a new bed.

Not sure what I will do in there yet??? Lake theme or no lake theme?

One sure thing is my beautiful angel hanging on the old chippy door will stay.  She keeps good watch over our guests.

Old chippy door.  I may convert that door into a headboard.

My lakeside cottage rental sign and the hole in between the suitcases and sign was where my daughters TV was.

Thinking of maybe relocating the old garden gate somewhere else and maybe even painting it.

I think my old farmhouse mailbox will stay no matter what motif I decide to do in there.  Love that old chippy mail box. Such character.

PS..... I wanted to show you the bike I scored at Junk Bonanza last week.  I am in the process of painting this for my garden.  I can't wait to fill her basket with some lovely flowers this summer.

Well my friends.  I am off to Home Goods to see if a bed set from there might inspire me to which direction to go with the guest room.
I asked the hubby to Spackle where I take the stuff down off the walls today so not sure if I will paint the same color or change.
Stay tuned!!!!
Have a great rest of the week.

I just love you. You get so excited to see change. I hope I can get my act together and figure out what I want to do in there. Usually I have a vision of what I want and I build on that but for some reason I am stuck on what to do with that space. So I am going out today to look at some bedding maybe that will inspire me to go one way or another!!!!!!

  5. You have so much to work with, Kris! You have a nice lake and garden thing going on...that's so YOU!! Good luck. I know what you mean about having them home for awhile, getting used to it and then them leaving. My sons have come back and forth since college and I miss them when they're gone. And I really miss my daughter since she moved out, nothing can replace that "girltalk"!

    Love the bike!!

    1. Hi Jane,
It was nice to have my daughter home for a short while but I know she wanted her independence again. So happy she found a great job at Hinsdale Hospital and she is loving it. Her apartment is near the hospital so it is so great for getting to work. She is still a city girl and wants to move downtown. So I am waiting for that to happen for her next year. Her dream job will be to get in at Lurie's Childrens Hospital on the peds oncology unit. So hopefully next year she will get that going. Just happy she found a good job in her field for now.

Great find on the bike. I am on the look out for a old bike for the garden. Looking forward to seeing your new room and bike.

I love that bike and can't wait to get flower in it and get it officially outdoors!!!!!! It is hanging upside down in my garage rafters right now. It this crazy weather would ever settle down I could get it out and in the garden. Hopefully next month.

Ha Ha you have me pegged!!!! I like change so I will do some changing in there. I just am not sure what yet. Usually I have a plan but this time I am going back and forth on the lake theme or something new. I may just stay with the lake theme and go with new bedding to make a change in there. I do like a lot of my old lake pieces in there so I might just want to stay with that theme. Have a great week.

I think that door may become a headboard. It is an old lake house door so I would really love to re love it somehow in that room. Hope your week is going good.

    1. Hi Mary Alice,
It is so nice to have my guest room back. I miss my daughter but am glad she has her own place now. My husband and I have been empty nesters for 6 years and to have our daughter move back in was hard. I think more on her than us. She has been out of the house since she started college and worked for 2 years down by her college. We were just glad she finally landed a good job up this way so she could be by us and we would see her more.

Hope all is well with you. Have a great week.

  14. What fun to start with a semi-blank canvas. I think whatever you find at HomeGoods hat you love will kind of pave the way for the theme of the room. Gotta say the Lakeside theme is pretty sweet! Our oldest son is with us temporarily, too. It is odd-but okay in a good way. Congrats on your daughter's job...rn in oncology is a hard one-zo Diana

My daughter is a special person and is following me in doing oncology nursing. When I started my nursing career I was an oncology nurse too. It is a hard job but most of the nurses I have known in this field are so compassionate and right where they need to be to help so many at the end of their lives. My daughter is a great nurse and wants to eventually go into pediatric oncology. It takes a special person to do this work and she is perfect for the job. I am so proud of her.
      Have a wonderful week.

  18. Love the new bike!! We have a huge Flea Market here in May and a bike for my flower garden is on my list of things to look for. My youngest is 26 years old and now has a place of her own across town that is closer to her work...so I have an empty bedroom to decorate too. Right now I've been making my jewelry in there, but I really need to get a bed to go in there so when family from Tennessee comes to visit us. Can't wait to see what you do with your room.

I think I am going to keep the lake theme. I just have so many cute things I have collected and want to keep. I am going to have Terry make the door into a headboard. You know me and doors. I found some Rachel Ashwell British rose duvets that are white and blue so I think I may use them for bedding to keep the blue in there. I am feeling a little color coming on in my white world!!!!! Have a great rest of this week. We actually have had sun for two days in a row!!! Wooooo Hoooo! such a tease for us. Hoping it will stay nice and I can actually start my flowers next month.

I think I may just add some color and new bedding in there. I am excited to get it going.

  24. Hi Kris, I am anxious to see what you discovered at HomeGoods. Whatever you do in that spare room will be charming, I am sure. I would love to see you make the white suitcases as a bedside table. You could store guest towels, sheets, magazines, etc. in there. Went on a trip this past weekend and used your tote twice. Sure did come in handy! :) I have been keeping up with your weather thru my son. He has some issues in his basement he has never had before but not as bad as others. Sure hope things are better up that way now. Wishes for sunshine and warm weather. xoxo

I actually did not find anything at Home Goods but I did find some nice duvet covers I had stored. They are Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic British Rose with the lighter blue in them so I think I may play off the blue in there. I am going to keep the lake theme since I have collected so much for that room. I am going to have Terry make the old door into a headboard for me.

Our weather here has been pretty crazy. Glad to hear your son did not get too much of the flooding. We were good our sump pump was going non stop but it kept the rain out. The weather has been better so I just hope it continues so I can actually get out in the yard with my flowers.

      Have a great week.

I like the idea of using it as part of a headboard. Good luck on finding your inspiration for the room. I'm sure you will decide after you walk around the store. Usually, just a walk through the bedding department can do that for me!
