Expand O Matic Table

I got so many emails asking about my last post on the Expand O Matic table I re loved for the new house.

So many people did not even know they existed and wanted to know more about them.

I originally saw them on Pinterest.  After seeing how great these are I knew I was going to be on the hunt for one!

They really are great when you do not have a dining room or space for a big table.

With so many of you expressing an interest in these, I thought I would show you some of the ones that are out there.

Here are some examples.

Here is one like mine. This one has a roll out table leaf instead of the individual leaves that hook together like mine.   This one comes in a cherry finish.

This one is a vintage buffet that turns into a expanding table.

This  china cabinet expands into a table.

This is a desk that pulls out to a table.

This one is a dresser that pulls out to a table.

This one has chairs that fold up and can be stored in the cabinet.

This one is a modern day version that is Amish made that you can purchase.  Price tag $1,995!
While I am sure this is well built of solid wood that is a bit pricey.

I love mine and am so happy to have this one.  If you are looking for one just check out your local sale sites and antique shops.  They really are a great way to have a dining room table when you do not have room for one.

Have a good weekend.
Kris

  5. Love yours, it's beautiful. I have one that is a desk and be a table with 3 leaves. Right now I use it as a desk, but my Auntie used it as a table.

You and Terry did a wonderful job.

  9. I did some searching on eBay and didn't really find any that were as large as yours...maybe they would accommodate 8 people at most. I'm thinking of using something like this in our screened in porch. We will have a separate dining room but I'm sure we will want to entertain on the porch as well some time but I don't want to take up a huge chunk of space with a table. If I can't find something like this I'll just use a trestle table that can be used as a sofa table when not in use.

  10. There was one of these in the basement of John's grandmother's house and I wish someone in the family would have kept it. We were all into updated interiors at that time and had no idea what a great old piece that was. I love yours and it looks so good painted white. It is just perfect on that wall where you placed it and I know it will work great for those meals when you don't want to set up downstairs.
Have a great Sunday, Kris. xo Diana

  13. Perfect for your little country cottage....and yes, they are perfect for small homes. We had one in an apartment when we were first married. It was great, but then we inherited a set and had a big house, so I let it go...sadly. Great job!

  22. I found the desk version at a garage sale. As soon as the owner pulled it out I said, "I'll take it!" Got the truck, stopped by the ATM and hauled it home. The owner explained its history. They were totally replacing all of their old furniture to update their style. The expansion desk/table had been in their family for over 70 years. The relative they inherited it from decades ago was a Levi Strauss & Co. tailor. It's fun to wonder if any of the jeans in my closet might have been designed on this amazing piece of furniture.
