You know how one thing leads to another!!!!

Hi Everyone.  Hope the ringing in of the New Year was fun for all of you.

I took down all my Christmas decor and some of you may understand how doing one thing like that can lead to another and another lol!

This was a snapshot of my living room before I began my Christmas Decor.  My little assistant Peggy getting in the shot!

Then I added some Christmas to this room for the holidays.

After I took the Christmas decor down I was thinking hmmmm,  I really hate that my window that lets a lot of light in this room is always covered up by my large reclining sofa.

This room is so small and the only person that sits in here is me.  We use our family room downstairs for all other activities like watching TV and entertaining.

I made a decision to make some changes in this room for the new year.  I moved most of the furniture out of the room or over to the side.  I did a little cleaning of baseboards etc. and now the open space is ready for a transformation.

This room will get a little cottage style re love.  It is going to involve some slipcovers, chippy pieces,  and a new rug.  I am waiting on the rug to arrive and then I can finally get this room put together.

I enjoy change and I think I am going to love the new and more open feel I get in this small living room.

Have a great start to the new year.  I always love that you stay connected and leave your sweet comments.  I am looking forward to a new year of following your blogs and being inspired with new decor adventures.

Hugs,
Kris

  1. You and I are on the SAME PAGE. First of all, your cottage is darling. You too, have a space that is just your own; my old living room and studio are in the front of the house where I'm the only one who spends any time there. The new great room in the back is where we watch TV and entertain. SO.......like you, I have a plan. However, it will take a while until I can mastermind this plan into reality. Here's my idea: since our old living room is about the size of yours, the large but pretty Stickley sofa is WAY TOO BIG for that room. I want an airy feeling in there, and gradually, I'm getting it, but the sofa is breathing in too much air in there. So my plan is to get rid of it and replace it with a smaller settee. YEP! But will the Mister agree? We shall see!

In the mean time, enjoy all the planning and I can't wait to see what you come up with my friend! Happy new year!

  5. SO true! I usually take down decorations New Year's Day but got the itch to last Friday thinking I'd just "start" and ended up taking it all down. Then looked at the rooms with 'fresh eyes' and made some changes too lol. I already started putting up my Valentine decorations haha!

  6. Always a treat to see your sweet home. I look forward to seeing what you do with this space that is your own.

Since losing my dear husband 5 years ago, this little cottage is becoming more my space. It takes time, but it doesn't hurt as much as in the beginning. My BIL will be here over the next two Saturdays, at least that's our plan, to do some repair/remodeling work in the living room and I am so looking forward to that. A new look for the new year.

    Have a wonderful 2018 ~ FlowerLady

    1. Hi Candy,
I loved that rug and got it at Home Goods. The problem was that you cannot use your vacuum much on these wool rugs or it will pull away the threads and I did not know that. With having a dog etc. I had to vacuum the rug and I started to see the backing of the rug and black marks coming up all over the rug. It looked like someone spilled black paint all over it. So I was very disappointed and googled the rug company and they said you cannot vacuum this kind of rug! What who has a rug they cannot vacuum. So this sweet rug was ruined. Never fear I found something similar with a light gray and white pattern from Overstock.com that should come this week. I think it will look pretty and you can vacuum it!!!!

  12. Can't wait to see your new rug and what other changes you make. Never heard of a rug that couldn't be vacuumed...hmm, must have been a fella who designed that one...ha! Your home is so sweet and I love seeing what you have done. I guess that room could be considered your mama cave! Hugs for Miss Peggy. I went out to the mailbox this morning and saw some small footprints in the snow. Sure hope that little animal found shelter in these below zero temps. xoxo

  16. HI Kris..
Your cottage is always beautiful and homey. Little Peggy is so cute photo bombing your picture. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. How fun to begin the new year with decorating. I have so much work to do...and I'm ready to get at! We have family flying in and out from holiday travels so we'll be headed back to Phx (220 miles) this week. So in the meantime, we'll enjoy more family time and holiday doins'. I hope to get back to blogging soon, too. Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year filled with blessings and more of what you love, friend.

    Hugs,

  20. Happy New Year Kris! I should have known you would start making changes! You are too funny! I like the "before" and "after" of Christmas.. and now the cleared out space.... and then? then? I'm anxious to see. Makes me want to do something with our small living room, which is our "everything" room! No other space to sit and visit, watch TV, etc so it is IT as far as everything we do... and I"m beginning to feel kind of claustrophobic in it.. too much stuff and furniture. My hubby keeps buying chairs at the thrift store.. he has a "thing" for chairs. And with our tree up, it's even more crowded... plus putting my dining table in the corner as a craft space, which I love, but makes the room look even more crowded. Don't know if I will leave it there or not. We have a loveseat too that I may get rid of as no one sits on it but our cats! Have a good week! hugs.. Marilyn

  21. No matter what you do, Kris, it will look great. I loved your room even as it was but I know that you, like a lot of us, enjoy changing things up. I can't wait to see your new rug and see the room re-styled. Your home has the perfect small cottage feel that I love. Even my Mindy that LOVES color loved your house-and the warmth and serenity of it....or maybe it was the owner that was warm and serene? lol Have a Happy New Year getting things done. xo Diana

  24. Happy New Year, Kris! I'm looking for new living room curtains. Not sure what but I'll know them when I see them! Nothing like a clean slate to make changes! Looking forward to seeing how you redo the room. Still need to take Christmas down at the city house. Tomorrow. 😊

  25. Kris, I'm glad I'm not alone. My family always teases me that I am constantly changing! :) Although, not as much as you sweet thing. I am wanting to remove everything from my living room and paint the wood white. It has a reddish cast to it and I don't love it. No one uses that room. It's just a display room. lol! When we moved in I asked hubby if he wanted it for his office, but he chose to go upstairs. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do. I know it will be fabulous! Happy New Year!
    hugs,

  26. There's only one way to find out if something is going to work for you and you don't hesitate to give it a try, Kris! I'm all about letting as much light into a room as possible, so I understand your dilemma. I can't wait to see what you've come up with! Happy New Year!

  27. Hi Kris, If you wouldn't move some things around every few weeks, I'd fear you'd be sick, lol. You and your cute assistant will have fun playing with the furniture and décor pieces. It will look great, I'm sure.

  32. Hi Kris, small cozy rooms only require love. I too have what I call my sitting room in reality it is the main living room and it’s way to small to be anything other then a conversation sitting room. I opted to bring in the large armoire because larger pieces always grounds the space. Ones commonly think that you have to shrink down the furniture to accommodate for space. Contrairy to that belief, larger pieces enlarge the use of the space and adds so much more interest. Adding wow impact as you have done here. We have bedroom TV and a small bedroom I’m am turning from office to another room that will act as a library, guest, den like cozy space to curl up and enjoy tv and movies. The small space is great on sound and will be enjoyed as much as my main living room space. I’m looking forward to the chippy touches, the New slips that I too want to redo for my sofa. Your cottage is wonderful, freeing you time to enjoy it rather then bring the house keeper to a larger size in cleaning.
    See you soon dear.

    Xx
A beautiful New Year and all it inspires from you.
