Heavy Heart

With a heavy heart I am posting about the passing of our sweet Libby.

Libby as most of you know that follow my blog was our 13 year old basset hound "aka photo bomber"!

Today was an ordinary day.  Libby ate her breakfast and fell asleep sunning herself in front of the sliding doors of the patio this morning.

This afternoon when she tried to get up from her doggie bed she fell over and lost all movement.

We raced her to the emergency vet and they were able to do some tests and X-rays to find out that Libby had a very large mass on her spleen that burst and she bleed out quickly.

The compassionate ER Vet was able to make her comfortable  before she expired.
So I am so grateful she did not suffer too much.

Libby was the best little dog you could ever know.  She was the heart of our family.

Terry and I are in shock and devastated this all came about so quickly.  Our hearts are broken and we miss her terribly.

We pray she is at peace.  This certainly has been a hard year for us and now with losing our sweet angel has made it even more difficult.

While this was so hard today I hold onto the blessings that come in a tragedy like this.  The whole family was together when this happened.  So we were all with Libby when she passed.

Our fur babies are members of our families and it is so hard to lose them.  They take a big chunk of our hearts when we have to say good bye.

So give your sweet fur babies an extra hug and kiss and treat today and enjoy each and every day you have with them.

Please keep Terry and I in your thoughts and prayers.  This certainly is a large loss for us.

  31. Libby had a lovely life with the family she loved as much as they loved her. I'm so sorry to hear about this sweet pup. Since I did not have children, our four-legged family members have always been my babies. Our hearts have been broken many times and hubby wonders why we do it to ourselves. But the love and happiness they give us while they are here more than compensates for the great sadness we feel when they leave us. My heart is with you.

  47. I am such a caboose blogger these days! But I am so sorry for your loss. I am so glad that your sweet Libby did not suffer long. Our family was all together when our Lab passed too so many years ago. It was a real bonding time for us. I read a eulogy I had written that was as much about our family time during his life span as much as it was about him. And then we buried him on our country property. It was a serious transition time for our family too. It will always be a sweet memory. I also just read about your new home! I am so glad for you and that you decided to settle near family. Best wishes and prayers for you.

  57. what heartache their going leaves us with... they kidnap our hearts and keep them forever, without our almost knowing its happening.. I cried for weeks when our Sasha left us, and I was shocked at my reaction, because up to then, I had loved her, but she was just a dog... no she definitely was not, she was part and parcel of our family and I had not realised how much she loved us and guarded us... luckly we had another puppy join us before she left, so that did help, but the loss remains.. I hope you don't cry too often, but it will happen, and you just have to remember what a wonderful life you all gave her.. that will help, and the many happy memories you shared... keep them in mind and love her again for sharing part of your lives.. allthebest from over the pond.. 74. Kris, may your pain soon be softened with lovely memories of your dear Libby. I felt the pain you are feeling many years ago and it is as real as the whole left in your chest when your cherished member of the family, the one who never felt anything but true love for you, the one who knew you best, the one who wanting nothing more everyday of her life than to please you goes away. I can tell you that eventually the pain does get softer and the memories become sweeter and you will grow ever more grateful that she was such a large and important part of your life...sweet Libby.

  76. Oh, Kris, I know exactly how you feel. When we lost our 14 year old Dorje, we were devastated. The house just didn't feel right without a dog to greet us. I know how difficult this year has been for both of you and now to lose Libby. Thankfully you were all together.

My thoughts are with you and Terry and the family. It's funny that just yesterday I was talking about you with my daughter-in-law and now it turns out that you were going through hard times just about the time we were talking.

    Miss you!

  77. The loss of a pet truly is shocking and difficult no matter the circumstances. You can take comfort knowing that you were there for her in the end. Cry your tears of loss...feel your pain and know that she realizes the kindness you showed her through the years was due to the unconditional love that was expressed between you and she. We have lost 2 beloved pets due to death and there just any good way for it to happen. The first was "Amigo", who was truly my husbands best friend. We had planned a week in Vegas and at the last minute could not board the one dog due to a cough...so we ultimately decided to not board either. The vet was able to make arrangements for us to have a doggie care provider visit several times a day for feeding and play time. Unfortunately, the first night our beloved 14 year old Amigo, a black cocker spaniel passed in the night. The CP was devastated to find him in the morning...however, I believe he chose his time to go so that my hubby wasn't the one to find him. The 2nd was our Gizmo, who in the last 6 weeks prior started to have seizures. He too was a elderly fellow of 13 years. Unfortunately, my poor hubby had been in the hospital for 8 weeks when I realized poor Gizmo just couldn't hold on any longer. He appeared to be in terrible pain. The vet offered to heavily sedate him so that I could afford my husband one last cuddle...unfortunately with the VA facility in which my hubby was a patient was 2hours away. I opted to just let him go peacefully with the assistance of his vet. Know dear, that you did all that you could for you lovely Lilly. Hold each other close and speak of all the good times you had together. Wishing you peace and comfort in your difficult time.

We have gone through this once before and it was so terribly difficult. Your Libby lived a good life and you have so many amazing memories filled with love to remember. Our dog will be 9 soon and I notice lately that he is really slowing down and with his pancreatitis we have had several close calls over the years, so it is always in the back of my mind.

  97. Hi Kris and Terry,
Indeed it has been a really rough year for you, and now to be hit with the devastating news that there was little you could do for Libby but make her comfortable. Can't even imagine what you went though having to hold her paw in her passing as a family filled with tears. I dread this day happening to us with our sweet Pia, and yes while reading your request I did cuddle our fur baby.

I hope when you settle into your new home that you find space to fill your home with another companion, not to take Libby's place but to bring joy to you as Libby did everyday of her beautiful life.

I am sorry I am late in my visit, I was talking with Vera, and it was she who told me the news and was when with what you may be having to deal with emotionally. Many blessed days you had with Libby and she with you. No better fur mama and daddy xould she have had. She gently rest now in the comfort of your love.

    Prayers of comfort and healing.

    Lots of love.

    Xx

When we lose a pet, life is never quite the same, and maybe it's not supposed to be. Our fur babies wrap their furry tails around our hearts, and leave their paw prints on our souls. We are better for having loved them, and to have been loved by them.

Sadly, when we decide to accept a pet into our homes, we know the day will come when we have to say goodbye. But it's never, ever easy. Thank goodness you were there for Libby the entire time. I'm sure that was a great comfort to her.

  100. Oh my goodness Kris - God is testing you in so many ways lately. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet little Libby. What a treasure she was to you and Terry all of the years she was with you. I know from experience how very hard it is to see our little furries go, we lost three pets within the span of about a year. I hope you find comfort in the fact that you gave her a good life and that she was loved very much. Thinking of you! Jane

  103. Oh, Kris. I just read this post. I am so sorry. I really know how devastating it is. The little angles trust us so much and give us so much love. We are so happy to have them but it is really a hard thing to accept when it is their time. I'm glad Libby didn't have to suffer too much, and I hope that sweet Buddy is good to her in their new playground..

  108. I am so sorry, Kris, as are so many other ladies in Blogland. Libby was so sweet natured and precious. We met, remember? I thought how sweet it was that you had that little bag of cut up hotdogs for her treat. She knew she was loved and you did it well. I'm glad that you were there when she collapsed and the whole family when she passed. My dogs are 11 and 13. I know I will be heartbroken when they leave me. And for you--with all of the upheaval in your life right now, you really don't need and other hurts.

Sending you lots of love...Terry, too.

    Jane

  110. Kris and Terry I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Libby. I believe our furbabies are put on this Earth to teach us compassion, nurturing, friendship, companionship and love. They are like Angels sent to us for a purpose. They truly are a part of the family and because they are with us everyday, a part of our ups and downs, they are there for us through everything. We lost our beloved Hannah last August, but she left behind with us enough love to want to travel through with a new companion, Gizzy. She will never be forgotten and like you has left a hole that with time will lessen, but will always be there. I hope that you and Terry when settled into your new home will open your hearts again and have a new companion to share that new part of your life with. My prayers are with you both on your loss of Libby.
    Hugs, Pendra
