Home Sweet Home For Sale

We put our home on the market this week.  It was a hard decision but one that we were going to have to do eventually.  We debated on waiting to see where Terry would land a job before we sold this house but we talked about it and thought it would be good to put it up on the market while our weather was still nice and the house has curb appeal with the garden flowers.

So if it sells before Terry finds a new job we will just have to store all of our stuff and go to Plan B.

Just praying something will come through for him and we will also sell this home about the same time.  In a perfect world lol!!!!! A girl can hope right?!!!!!

Anyway I thought I would give you a tour of our home.  If you live or need to live in the North West suburbs of Chicago by all means come and look at her. Lake Zurich is a really sweet town that has lots of history and a big beautiful lake.   Junk Chic Cottage is a special home that I have loved with all my heart the past 8 years.

Front of House.
I did not touch up any of these pictures.  What you see is what you get!
 :)

Backyard

Backyard looking at deck.

Terry's storage shed.  Lots of storage and electricity.

Front Entry.

Living Room

Kitchen

Laundry Room

Behind the chalkboard Laundry room door is my big storage area.  For a small house this house has tons of storage.

One side of the storage room.

Other side of storage room.

Dining room / another family room.  This room was the family room but I did not need a living room and family room so I made this room off the kitchen my dining room.  I entertain for the holidays and I loved having a big dining room to seat everyone together for celebrations.  The new buyers can put a table in the kitchen if they do not need a dining room and could make this a family room.

My office off the back of the dining room.  Terry and I made this room divider out of old vintage doors and posts.  Love that I have this space for my office.

One of our three bedrooms is Terry's home office.

My guest room.  King size bed fits in this bedroom along with space for dressers.

Hall and guest bathroom.  Vintage white and gray.  Full shower and soaker tub.

Master Bedroom.  King bed still room for seating area and dresser.

Large picture window looking out to backyard.  Lots of natural light in this room.
Master bathroom.

Double spa shower.

Back yard deck and sanctuary.

Well my friends that is the tour of Junk Chic Cottage that is now up for sale.  I will so miss my beautiful home I have made here but I know there is another home waiting for me to re love into a cozy home.

Have a great week.  Continued prayers that some of the jobs Terry is in the running for might work out for us soon.  It has been a long 7 months and we are hoping to be moving on to a new journey soon.

  7. Kris, your home is beautiful. I hate that you are having to do this but something wonderful is always around the corner. I so hope that your husband is able to find a job that is just right. 8. I was so surprised to see that your home is on the market. We're in the process of selling and buying as well. It's a stressful but exciting time but I think worth it in the end. No doubt you will be making your new home as beautiful as this one is. Best wishes to you and your husband for a new job and new home. One day at a time, Kris. : ) xoxoxo

  9. Kris, I can just imagine the contract now: The seller is asked to include all architectural details, all the furniture, and the expertise to make it all work! Good luck. I am sharing this on FB just in case someone here wants to move to Chicago! I am anticipating long posts on making over the new home.

  10. I know this has been a tough decision, but one that you had to make. Your home is so full of charm and character, and I know that some lucky family will be happy to call it home. Praying that Terry finds that perfect job soon...good things will be coming soon.

  11. Kris your home is so beautiful and sparkles with your wonderful personality and talent. I know it will be hard to leave but I can just imagine what you will do in your new home. I've learned through trial and tribulation during our moves that home isn't about the house, it's about making it a home no matter where you end up. I hope that Terry finds the right job and that you will sell your home soon.

  13. Hi Kris,
Your house is so wonderful. It's a happy house and I know whoever it chooses for it's next family will have many lovely experiences there, just as you and Terry did. I agree with Donna...I'd be asking for tons of things to stay! Hang in there...the right thing will come along for Terry and y'all will be off on a new adventure together. Love you, T.

  14. Prayers and blessings to you and hubby. Hoping the house will sell fast. I agree with everyone that your house will be desirable to any one that visits it. Be prepared to make concessions for the beauties you have added. I would want the room divider to stay and most of the chandies. ;)

    1. Thank you for your sweet prayers and blessings. I am willing to leave a lot of the chippy pieces that have made this house a home if the buyer loves them. They made me so happy and are part of this home so I am so happy to leave things if the next buyer wants them. Wish you needed a home in my area!!!

    2. ha ha. We lived near Chicago in the mid 80's when my husband was on Marine Corp recruiters duty. The winters were a great shock to us as we are both Northern Californians and now live in the central valley. We have had 100+ temps in the last week. I would love to be your neighbor anywhere. I too have had recent trouble with being unemployed. Decided to pursue a career change which required education a little later in life. I received my RN license in June of 2011. Mid stream the economy took its fall. The consequences of that were the semester prior, mine and one after, the students had great difficulty in finding positions. Only about 20% of the hospitals in our area will hire new grads. To date only 60% of students from those three semesters within the central valley have found employment in their area of instruction. For me my efforts were compounded with a hip injury just 4 mos after graduation in May 2011, which went un repaired till August of 2014 with total hip replacement. Now I have sustained yet another injury. There is one advantage to my unemployment as it allows my husband who has many comorbidities to remain in his own home vs a skilled nursing facility in which the VA suggests he be each time he is hospitalized. My education allows me to be proactively involved in his care. That is my silver lining in an other stormy existence. Moral of the story....you and Terry have each other and your love to sustain you through any challenges that lay ahead of you. I know you will make the changes work for you. I hope when your house sells that you will be able to find a creative outlet that will sustain you till you are able to be settled again.

    3. Wow you have been through so much. Glad your training as a nurse is helping you to care for your hubby at home. That is the best value of life when some one needs full time care. Stay in California the winters here are brutal. We have had great challenges in our lives and I am praying and wishing for better days ahead. Thank you for sharing with me. Much appreciated.

  15. Kris,
Over the past 8 years you and Terry have made your home into a beautiful cozy nest. I know for you and Terry this was an emotional daunting decision. But now it is time to once again feel another embrace of home in another city to love. The dynamic design couple of Kris and Terry will feather a new nest and share your beauty as you create another heart warming home. So whoever purchases your Chicagoland home will become the next caretakers, living in a home that holds energy of the love you shared remodeling over the years.
    Love you girlfriend,
    Vera

  18. Hi Kris!
This is such a surprise! Do homes in your area sell fast and quick ? If so no worry. Here is California when the poor economy hit home sales were at their all time low, yet homes now don't sit on the market long if well maintained like yours. One designer trick in selling fast and for top price is to de-clutter. It's part of my job as an interior designer and staging Model homes for the real estate market its to bare up those walls leaving one nice architectural piece to each room. One thing great is I noticed that you don't have a family wall of family FOTO'S or wedding FOTO'S hanging on your walls and this is a GOOD thing! You want to make your home not feel personal, and feel like the home of every potential buyer on the market.

You can get a head start on packing and patch touch up to nail holes....make your home feel like a model home, and the white walls is a plus it's a clean pallet for a buyer. Have you thought to take down the wall divider before its shown, this will open up the space and you can take that wall with you to your new home, using it again indoors or outdoors for the same effect.
I would set out the magazines you were featured in, and that's always fun history.

I just know heart of hearts the two of you are looking forward to where you land, and how you will be decorating it. Maybe Junk chic cottage will become Junk chic FarmHouse ? :)

I am sure it will sell soon, everything you touched in your home helped to turn this home to SOLD

The home tour was amazing.... You better not be surprised if some buyers want you to leave all the decor :)

Looking forward to your next home, and all it has to offer you.
Blessings on yours and Terry's new journey in life, thank you for taking us with you! :)

  33. I pray a job will come along for Terry very soon. I know how much you love this house...I loved ours the same way...we were there for 40 years and so much work went into it...one of the hardest things was when the realtor told us to take out most of the decor....leave only a few pieces of furniture so that a buyer might be able to see their decorating instead of mine. Had to remove all personal pictures, extra furniture (so the rooms would appear larger)...and keeping things nice and neat all the time in case someone wanted to look at it. whew
The first guy to look made us an offer that very day and I wanted to take it...Bill, on the other hand, wanted more money. It took another 5 months for the right buyer to come along and Bill did, indeed, get what he asked for.
You should have no trouble selling...keeping fingers crossed for you.....

  78. Every room every detail, is perfect. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to leave all this loveliness, but life has a way of throwing a few curveballs our way. I don't know the backstory, but I'm hopeful and optimistic the timing will work out for you both. We had a similar situation and ended up needing to rent for a year, but in the end it was fine.

Wherever you go, you'll make it your own oasis.

  90. Awe, I'm so sad that this beautiful home you have loved your way through one room at a time is on the market. I am keeping my finger's and toes crossed that Terry is offered one of the positions he is in the running for. I know without a doubt your gorgeous home will sell quickly. As sad as it will be to bid farewell to your lovely home you so generously shared with us, I look forward to following your new journey and re-love of your next home.

  91. I have no doubt what so ever your home is going to sell fast Kris. It is impeccable. Don't be surprised if the people ask for a lot of your furnishings too. That happened to us in Florida and we wound up selling a lot of it with the home. It was worth it. Best of luck to Terry on the ongoing job search.

  92. Your home is absolutely amazing. I am sure that there will be plenty of people wanting your home and I don't blame them, I would be first in the door if I was over there! My hubby is very jealous of Terry's office especially all the fire touches!! I do hope he finds something suitable soon xx
