Spring Around Junk Chic Cottage

Happy Wednesday!  Hope your week is going great.

Before I start my post on some of my Spring decor I want to say this.......

This sectional has been a big challenge for me as most of you saw in my last post.  I so miss my slipcovered sectional it was so much more my style.  Unfortunately it was not a good choice when it came to actually using my furniture.  I have a dog, granddaughter and family that actually lounge and enjoy this sectional.  That created a problem with the white slipcovers.  It was a pain to wash and try and keep that clean.

So the leather is so much a better choice.  I picked this one after looking and trying out several leather sectionals.  There were many that had the cottage look with rolled arms etc. I just did not like how uncomfortable they were. So we decided on this one for the comfort.

I think I was trying so hard to make this leather sectional something it is not ever going to be.  So the ruffle is going and I will leave the barn boards for now.  My hopes are to find maybe some cool salvage feet to put on to replace the modern feet.  That way I can remove the barn wood and just have the feet give the character and charm of the cottage look.

So I need to step away from this room and hopefully come back with a better vision with the way I want to marry pottery barn leather with cottage.  I appreciate all your wonderful input on my decor crazy with this sectional.

Now On to the Spring popping up around Junk Chic Cottage.

I found this great centerpiece last year at Home Goods.  It had a silver shinny base so I just painted it white and then hung my spring sign on it.  Gives some Spring to the dining room table.

My Love birds have new Spring decor added to their home.

A few painted clay pots, some blue eggs and flowers along with a vintage nest on an old bed spring give my love birds a cozy Spring home.

The sweet birds in the wreath on the french door going out to the deck.

Love these little birds with their button tails.  Their nest is ready for Spring.

Added this new chippy bird cage to the spring decor on my little dresser in the dining room.

Found a cute Spring bird and some dried hydrangea's for the inside of the cage.

Brought in some chippies from the garden outside to bring Spring to my coffee table.

This little white birdhouse and picket were out in the summer garden last year.  Thought it would add some Spring to this table.

Also brought in one of my chippy watering cans and added some spring flowers.

Added a spring flowering crab vine wreath and another watering can by the front door for Spring.

Thanks for viewing some of my touches of Spring coming into my home.  So happy we are turning the corner on winter and Spring is in the air.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Come back on Saturday for Spotlight.  I have a sweet and dynamic couple for you to meet in Spotlight.

  6. Funny how pets and grands can change our lives.
Master Vic, a BIG boy, ripped out last leather couch. A chocolate monster it was, and I was not sad to see it go. It was replaced with another chocolate microfiber luv seat. STILL not a fan, but puppy friendly and grands friendly. That inhale covered with an off white cover that I can toss in the wash ( baby Win and drooling) Hahaha..
Luv the barnwood idea. Might have to borrow it :D
LUV all the sweet Spring touches!
    Happy midweek!!

  7. See, I knew that you would figure that sectional out all by yourself with no help from us! LOL-- You will come to love it and you know I just thought of some of those luggage suitcases in that same saddle color.....oh...you will have fun once you get going with it. I know you will.

As far as everything else goes-Spring is looking fine at your house. Can you believe we are only two weeks away from Easter? It is funny because you are not that far South of us and yet you have a whole different zone for growing things and get warm so much quicker than we do. I love your birdcage and that wreath is beautiful. Happy Spring, my friend. xo Diana

  8. Your spring decor in the cottage is beautiful Kris. Every season at your house is beautiful! I have barely started lightening things up around here for spring....I'm always a little behind it seems.
Leather would be a challenge her in my tiny house I think because of the dark, but I hear you on the pet and grandchildren dilemma. Seems my sofas are covered with quilts all the time until I need to do photos for the blog :)

  10. Kris, I think you need to be publishing your very own magazine on decorating. I absolutely love the bird and hydrangeas together in the cage. The wreath on the door with the birds, the sweetest thing ever. Hope you are having a fun time. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  11. I love the couch and I am glad that you decided to take of the white ruffel. I think your right about getting some different feet. I like the color of the couch with all your lovely white decorations. You certainly have brought Spring into your lovely home. Love all your vignettes my friend.
Have a terrific weekend and hopefully Spring will arrive this weekend.

  12. Everything is beautiful, I especially love the birds in the nest wreath. I am still stuck on that sofa, I know there's a way to get the look you want so I will keep thinking and I know you will see inspiration somewhere and come up with the perfect idea.

  13. Well, I thought you did a great job cottagifying up your leather sectional, and I loved the ruffle on the bottom. Loved all you spring touches. I also think you room looks more striking with the leather sofa, it gives the other items in the room more punch instead of all blending together. Now I see the other items against the color of the couch. Whatever you do I'm sure we will love it.

  14. Love all your cheerful spring touches, Kris. The flowers and birds are pretty signs of spring to come!
And I can sympathize with your leather sectional challenge. I love how those plank boards look at the bottom. I think my man is itching for some leather furniture one of these days...there's gotta be a way to co-mingle it with cottage style! Maybe Pinterest has some great ideas.

  16. Hi Kris, Love all your spring touches and vignettes. So fresh and inspiring. Love too what you did with your leather sectional to give it cottage style. Sometime practical just takes over doesn't it? It is such a wonderful piece and I know your talents will make it all come together.

  17. You have some cute Spring decor in your home! I love all of the garden themed items. I feel certain you will decide what to do about your sectional and the whole room it's used in soon. I bet Terry would LOVE it if you turned the room into a man cave for him! Just kidding. Hope everything is going well for you both.

  19. Your spring decorations are just enough to make it seem warmer even if it isn't outside. I kinda like the ruffle, but understand what you mean. You have to have comfy in the areas that you are always in. If it's going to be leather you have the perfect color. I like brown sofas. I would much rather see a living area that is really lived in. You know I like Cozy, hah.

  20. Kris Spring has sprung beautifully in your home. So many things I love, especially the birdcage. It's door is so sweet. Both wreaths are delicate in form and beautiful in detail, stunning! I am not familiar with crab vine but I want some!

  21. Spring looks lovely in your home!! So glad you are removing the ruffle from the sofas.....wanted to say something but was afraid to offend you......and I don't want to do that. Strangely enough, I like the whitewashed boards!! Now that you mention new feet.......really like that idea!! I think some other touches of the caramel color would tie things in better. Let wood tones show on the new feet, sanded of course....and some baskets that are brownish......everything you do is amazing, I admire your energy and your handy hubby too!!

  22. Your spring decor is so pretty, Kris...I really love the wreath on the French door! I know sometimes it is just hard to reconcile style and actually using a piece! We are getting ready to purchase a new sofa...and our dogs and grandchildren are determining what we are getting, too!

  28. With all this snow still hanging around I have been dragging my feet with the spring decor, but you have just motivated me to get moving, Kris! As far as your couch goes, I totally get it. I think your plan sounds great. The couch is functional, really great looking on its own and comfy. I am sure you will find a way to love it in your surroundings. In the meantime, you can love it as you wipe away the puppy drool and the tiny handprints! You've got to love that! ;)

  29. Kris, when I saw your picture (the one with your louvered screen and chippy coffee table) I could totally see your new leather sofa sitting in front of that screen with the chippy coffee table. I think the brown wood peaking through on the screen pulls the color of your sofa. Just a thought! I love your Spring vignettes and I'm really crushing over that chippy wood birdhouse.

  34. Love all your Spring touches Kris. As far as your sofa goes, I've had the same problem. I think I've probably told you that it's only relatively recently that I started taking a REAL interest in home decor, but as soon as I did I just KNEW that I wasn't ever going to be happy with my brown leather sofa and armchairs in my living room. I've tried all sorts of things to make it more cottagey, throws etc., but nothing worked until we purchased a large sisal rug to cover the centre of the room. With the feet of all of the seating on the rug, I think it's the nearest I've got to managing to bring it all together, so maybe a rug might help in your room? Just a thought, as I feel you're far more likely to find a good solution than I am, as you have that special 'touch' that I SO envy.

Insanity runs wild with our weather! I sure hope that your winter is gone and that fresh air and warm sunshine come soon! Hugs, Leena

  44. I love how all of your decorating is coming along! I like the leather sectional and I think it ties in with some of your chippy wood pieces that you have. I often wondered how hard it was to keep up the white sofa. I don't think I would last one week with all the work required to maintain the whiteness. I love how you made it your own and tied it in with the rest of your decor. You are definitely extremely talented in all that you touch!

  46. Your home is MADE for spring and summer, Kris! I'm admiring all of the wreaths and flowers and signs. I have zero, zip out! I need to get my bum moving!

I like leather, Hubby may get a leather recliner in our den which I am planning to do quite feminine. Of course, it's not as big as a sectional, So I know your are fretting, especially because you love your whites so much. My daughter loves neutral, too, but she has a crazy dog, lots of company and her hubby lounges on the sofa quite a bit (no family room). She recently replaced her sofas with a soft creamy herringbone linen that doesn't show dirt or dog hair. This is Emily, you've met her. It hasn't been delivered yet but I think it's a super solution. Good for you for making the changes...making it work. I think the ruffle is cute.

Happy Weekend. I'll try to get by more, dear.
