Pink Heals Fire Truck

Hello Everyone.  Hope the Holiday Week End was great for all of you.

As a lot of you know my hubby is the Fire Chief of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department and on this holiday week end each year they have Buffalo Grove Days to celebrate Labor Day Week End.   On Sunday they have the parade and usually each year I will ride in Terry's Fire Chief Car and wave and throw candy to the kids in the crowd.  It is always fun and an honor to be part of the parade.

This year it was a little different.  Terry walked in the parade with the Village Manager, the police chief and a few of the trustee's  so my daughter, son in law (that is a firefighter) and my granddaughter Abby and I were all able to ride on the Pink Heels Fire Truck this year in the Parade.  What an honor it was.

This is the Pink Heals Fire Truck named Jessica that is part of the Northern Illinois Pink Heals Chapter part of the Guardians of the Ribbon.
You can read about this great cause here.
They also have a facebook page here.

"Guardians of The Ribbon, dressed in pink fire suits, will drive pink fire trucks across the country every year to spread our awareness campaign supporting all women in their fight against cancer. We inspire cities and empower leaders to support the women of their communities to Care Enough to Wear Pink. The Guardians bring the tour to help raise money and awareness for the non-profit entities that help women in their City and State. In addition, this non-profit supports and helps other non-profit programs raise money by bringing the pink fire trucks to various fund raisers to assist in the efforts at no charge to the organization. As Guardians of The Ribbon, are goal is to spread the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign until all are in pink shirts. Why? Because Pink Heals!"

This man is Steve Rusin who is a hero in so many ways.  First of all he is a long time dedicated firefighter for Buffalo Grove Fire Department and was the driving force behind getting this pink fire truck in action to raise money for this worthy cause.  You can read about Steve and all his efforts here.

Here is Abby on the left and her bestie Aubrey getting ready to hop on the pink fire truck for the parade.

This is Maureen aka "Queen Mo" who is a recent breast cancer survivor and this year's guest of honor to lead Jessica into the parade.

One of the beautiful things you can do is leave a sweet message, prayer, wish or blessing for anyone that has passed from cancer or is a survivor or currently fighting breast cancer on the pink heals truck.

Here are some of the crowd getting their places to watch the parade.

The honor guard starts off the parade for the fire department.

My daughter Jen and little granddaughter Abby waiting to go.

The kids were so excited to be on top of the pink heels truck in the parade.

Abby and I at the end of the parade.  Wooooo it was a hot up there on the truck.  We were a little melted!!!!

It was a fun day at the parade and all the festivities for Buffalo Grove Days.  Bittersweet with this being the last fling for summer fun.

Hope your week end was great.
Have a safe and happy week.
Kris

  6. Kris,
I loved seeing the photos of sweet Abby, you and family riding in the parade. I hadn't heard of Guardians of the Ribbon and I'm going to see if Philadelphia is part of their awareness drive. Kris I have loss two of my best friends to breast cancer, Nancy and Pam. Your post today is heartfelt and I thank you. Your husband and son-in-law are hero's to us all. I've always found it amazing that firefighters run into a building on fire while others flee it in an effort to save lives and fight the fire. Simply put they are our Hero's.
    XO,

  9. What a wonderful thing to do. My hat is off to all that help with the Pink Firetruck. Looks like everyone enjoyed the parade and Abby and you look like you had a terrific time.
We have a fire truck here in Fullerton, CA (a vintage one) that at Christmas time they decorate it all over with Christmas lights and decorations and go around collecting toys for tots. these toys are given to children that would not get anything for Christmas.
So glad that everyone had a wonderful time.

  22. What a great family tradition, Kris! I'm sure you had a fun time tossing candy with your daughter and granddaughter. It's all for a very worthwhile cause, too. The mining company near us purchased a pink (huge) truck this year and featured it in our July parade. The workers even wore pink hardhats and vests! Every bit of progress we can make towards a cure is getting us closer. How wonderful that family members can leave messages on the firetruck!

  29. What a beautiful, and loving idea! I lost my best friend my Mom to breast cancer 3 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't miss her. I wish I was there to write her name on the pink truck! You come from a wonderful community and what a beautiful family you have made there! Your Daughter and Grandaughter are so pretty, even melted! You brought tears to my eyes with this story... but happy tears and tears of hope! Thanks for sharing it!
    Hugs as always!

  30. Awww, Kris- I missed this. I am trying to catch up on blogs a bit at a time. OMGosh- that Abby is so darned cute I could just squeeze her! (well, not hard). She is darling. That is a wonderful truck and what a great thing for Steve to have headed up. I am so glad to see things like this being done. I wonder how many pink firetrucks there are out there?

Hey-you do look a little warm there but you sure look happy and sweet. You look young enough to be Abby's Mom....better NOT tell your daughter I said that- it kind of ticks them off....lol xoDiana
