Polar Vortex Round 2 Lucky Junk Grand Opening Find

With Polar Vortex Round 2 this week ughhh! I am trying to find inside projects to keep me sane during these harsh and I  mean to tell you harsh winter days we are having.

This is Libby our 10 year old basset hound.  The look on her face says it all!

Yep! back inside on my fav rug where I lay and soak up some sun.  Temps today were below zero and wind chills in the dangerous 40 below wind chill range.  You just cannot even describe how cold it has been and continues to be here in the midwest.

This seems to be the only thing to do these days.  Take a nap where ever you can find some warmth and sun!

I went to Lucky Junks Grand Opening and it was fabulous.  Janet and Bill that own the shop are the sweetest couple ever and have the best treasures for sale.  I met up with Anne from White Lace Cottage and we made a day of it.

This is Bill's prized pick up truck that is parked outside the store.  Janet and Bill found this great truck on a junkin trip down south last year.  It is in mint condition and do you notice the name on the truck!!! I think it was meant to be for Bill to find!

While at the Lucky Junk open house I came across this chippy heavenly door just sitting there.  It has so much character with it's chippy hinges and all.  I did not know what I would do with it but had to have it.  At first I thought I might make the counter bar out of it but it was too long and I did not want to ruin her character by cutting her up so I waited and found another fun place for her in the dining room.

My two chandeliers hang over my farmhouse table.  Just hanging from the ceiling so I thought hmmmmm what would bling those up some!

Got Terry out of his leather recliner and put a drill in his hand and said "hey how about we hang this door on the ceiling?!" Yep! I got the look but he knew from living with me for almost 33 years now to just go with the crazy!

So down came the chandy's and up went the door.  Terry drilled two holes where the chandeliers would hang through.

So up the door went and then the chandeliers went back up and I had this old rusty crusty candle  chandelier and hung that in the middle for a little more romance for the dining room.

There you have it.  A chippy door now is the accessorizing around the chandeliers.  It was hard to get a nice picture with it looking so busy with all the background stuff.  It really looks good to have the door giving some character to the chandeliers over the table.  Next project is redoing the top of the farmhouse table.  Not sure if I want to paint it or just re stain it a richer color and maybe trim out the edges of the table.
Have a great week.  Stay warm where you are.
Kris

  3. I love the door! What a great idea. Hmm... we might just have to do that as well. (Just moved into a new house a few days before Thanksgiving and it's still not really decorated). I really love what you've done here.

Stay Warm! It can't even imagine what 10 degrees feels like, much less anything below zero. We have harsh summers here, so freezing temps like that.... boggles my mind.

I cannot even describe this weather. We midwesterner's are use to winter but this has been pretty bad and we still have two months to go ughhhh! I am a summer girl so I will take heat over this cold any time. Thanks for coming by.

  8. When is a door not a door? When it is ajar. That old joke doesn't work in our house. Doors have so many other purposes if you just look at them.

  9. Too cute. Our Vic follows the sun around the house as well :)
The door as a 'medallion' for the chandeliers... how clever is that?!
    Happy new week!

  10. Oh Kris - I was wondering when I first read your post as to where you were doing to put the door. I LOVE IT - I would have NEVER thought to put it on the ceiling, but it is terrific. Terry is such a wonderful guy - do you loan him out? LO:L
You never cease to amaze me on how creative you are.
Stay warm and Libby has the right idea - lay where the sun comes in. She is adorable - know she doesn't like all that cold weather and snow.
Hopefully your weather will warm up soon. Looks like there is rain in our forecast YEA YEA YEA. We need it so BAD.

  11. I think the door on the ceiling is an absolutely fantastic idea...it really accents the chandeliers. I think you are going to have people all over doing this very same thing!! The new shop looks fun...get some inside pictures next time. Is it near you?

Libby looks so cute in the snow. It has been in the 30's over here all weekend and I'm waiting for that big freeze I keep hearing about. Everything is supposed to shut down tomorrow.

    Take care!

  13. I can't believe how you can keep coming up with these really uniquely creative ideas Kris!!! I would have never thought to do that, I would have just done something boring like leaning it up against the wall or something. It really looks cool hanging up there with the chandys! Do you remember that show Trading Spaces? Well I want to trade spaces so you can add some fun to my decor! I know what you mean about finding things to do to keep occupied, it's not nearly as cold here as at your place but I'm getting cabin fever from being inside all the time to stay warm. That truck is beyond cute and how fun that you have a new shop to find more goodies. Take care and give Libby a hug for me, she looks so sweet!

  14. Now that is a great idea, Kris! Really adds some fun architectural interest! I love your beautiful Libby...before the 2 pugs we have now, we had 3 bassets over the years...Molly, Maggie, and Nellie. They all lived to old age...miss their sweet faces...

  15. Oh dear GOD - every time I come here I end up gasping at some point -
At first when I saw the door hanging on the ceiling I thought " ok - that's a bit much now Kris "
and then of course came the gasp - how could I doubt it even for a second -
Absolutely breathtaking - perfection - like always -
You hit it out of the ball park - every single freaking time!!!!!!!
    XOX
p.s. sick to death of winter here too - really sick to death of it - I've been hibernating!

  21. Your ceiling door looks great, Kris! It's good to have a handy hubby, isn't it? You both make a great team!
I don't blame sweet Libby for rather staying inside. Her paws must feel like ice cubes when she goes outside.
You both stay warm and have a wonderful week.

  23. You continue to amaze me! How beautiful is that door on the ceiling! I would have NEVER thought to hang it there. And your sweet husband! I know how hard it can be to get them out of the leather recliner!!! Love your sweet dog. We're expecting several inches of snow tomorrow. My kids are so excited. We never get snow here in NC. It'll be close to 60 this weekend so it'll be gone. I'm glad.
    Take care Kris! Stay warm.

  25. Hi Kris! We're sharing that cold air with you here in Ohio. Poor Libby ~ our kitty spends his days laying right on top of the heat register, he's lucky he doesn't have to go outside! The door looks amazing with your chandeliers and the little one in the middle was the perfect finishing touch!

  26. libby is so darling--love the look on her face! and the door is just fabulous looking, kris! it adds so much to the chandeliers! so very clever:) stay warm this week!

  27. My youngest son has a basset hound too, Penny, and she is the sweetest hardheaded puppy dog. She lets the baby crawl all over her, pull on her ears; just whatever and never gets upset. My other son said the schools have closed up there today. Even though they are only two houses down from the bus stop he drives Brynn down to the stop and waits in the car with her. It's just too cold to even be out there for 2 minutes. I absolutely adore what you did with the old door!!!!

  28. Your Libby has the same look on her face as all of us, I'm afraid! I can't believe you found another wonderful old door, and how you put it to use in your home! Looks wonderful, Kris!

  29. Brrrrrrrr! I was wondering how Libby was making out with the horribly cold temps and all that snow! I know my cockers never really liked it. They liked eating the snow but not being out in the cold! Your new door is fantastic and I love its placement! Brilliant idea! That new store looks like fun and you know that I love the old truck! Stay warm and keep doing your projects - it'll keep you sane and I love reading about all of them! Hugs, Leena

  31. I was looking at the picture of your door on the ceiling and thinking "that table is absolutely beautiful". Then the next paragraph says you are thinking of changing it!!!! Oh NO! I could just cry thinking of you changing that beautiful table top. Its yours and you should do whatever makes you happy but I had to say that its so gorgeous I wish you wouldn't change it, just my 2 cents worth.

  35. Kris, I feel so bad for you guys in the Midwest. It has been very cold and windy with snow here but nothing compared to you guys. My pups just run out the door go and make a beeline for the door. They are so tired of having cold wet paws. That piece you found is fabulous. I had a feeling you were going to do what you did with it. Don't know why, I just did and it looks fantastic!!

  38. Great idea, this might be a way to deal with an ugly kitchen fixture I have, because when / if we EVER take it down!!! (ha ha) it's going to leave a big bare patch in the ceiling that isn't popcorn'd. Gotta show the hubby. Thanks for the idea. Take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
